CAMALDOLI, PLACE OF FAITH IN TUSCANY

Camaldoli, in the province of Arezzo, is one of the most known and important expressions of the monasticism in Italy.
In 1012 Saint Romualdo and some of his followers came to these mountains of the Casentino (east part of Tuscany) and they built a small church and some cells in the place that is today identified as the Holy Hermitage of Camaldoli. The part reserved to the seclusion is closed to visitors the public, but only its view from the gate is very suggesting and it introduces us in a climate of high spirituality. However, the part of the Holy Hermitage opened to visitors is of high religious and also artistic interest, because you can visit Saint Romualdo’s cell and the church in Baroque style containing valuable works of art.
Some kilometres towards valley you can visit the Monastery of Camaldoli. In this sixteenth-century structure the monks of Camaldoli conduct a deep spiritual, cultural and of social aggregation activity through interesting moments of meeting.
Camaldoli is an absorbed place in the nature of the Forests of the Casentino, important also its art.
