Village of the Castle of Porciano, Stia
The village of Porciano overlooks the Casentino valley and is nestled around the ancient Castle built by the Guidi counts around the year 1000. The tower is privately owned and houses a small museum with farming and domestic artifacts as well as archeological finds related to the history of the Castle. The owners have their home in the Tower.
The holiday apartments are located in the higher part of the village nearest the Tower, where originally the walls of the Castle used to stand. They are all in stone and have been restored to respect the original layout and materials. There are three apartments for rent: “Casa Scaletta” (sleeps 4-5), “Casa Martina" (sleeps 2-3), "Casa Teresa" (sleeps 2-3). The apartments are furnished with family belongings to give you a cozy and welcoming feeling. The paths in the medieval hamlet are narrow and cannot be used by cars. There is a parking lot very close by. This assures a peaceful vacation where time is still kept by the sound of the local church bells.
The village of Porciano is approx. 300 feet above sea level only a mile away from Stia. Stia is a charming little town between two rivers, the Arno and the Staggia. The Romanesque church in the main square (Piazza Tanucci )is one of the most beautiful of the Casentino. There you will be able to find everything you need . There is a very nice park along the Arno river where you can swim and sunbathe in the summer.
